Local Waters Forecast Area: Melville Waters
Pelican Point is located on the north side of the Swan river. It is great for beginners in the morning on the Easterly breeze and learning how to waterstart for intermediates in the afternoon.
It's a sketchy kite launch best lest to intermediate/advanced riders.
A bit shallow for wing foiling but you can walk out if you are keen.
It has a tendency to get very busy after work and on the weekends. DO NOT park illegally as the ranger is down often handing out $80 fines. The Sea breeze (South-Westerly) blows onto a sandbar and makes it very safe because you can only get blown back on to it if you get into trouble. There is grass to rig on and toilets. It works well on sea breeze through Southerly to Easterly
Sailing Pelican Point on an Easterly
Thanks to Alec for this warning. Let's hope you read it before the same happens to you!
When sailing Pelican Point on any kind of easterly you need to give the area to the west (down river) to Jo Jo's restaurant and near the river bank a very wide birth. There are rocks which are hard to see as they lie just under the water line. I managed to ding up my brand new board and wreck the fin within 15 minutes on my first sail on it. I've been told I'm lucky, it could have been much worse and I'm not the first (naturally making me feel much better).
